How to Get Low Cost Michigan Homeowners Insurance
Does homeowner’s insurance typically cover spraying for bed bugs?
My landlady is reluctant to pay for this, even though the law is very clear that it’s her responsibility. (But the fines for violators are too low to motivate her.) I’m hoping she’ll be more willing if she knows she can recoup her costs by filing an insurance claim. Any ideas on other ways she can cover her costs (gov’t programs, etc.) are much appreciated. At this point taking her to court is not an option I’m willing to consider. Thanks!
Unfortunately not. Insurance pays for damages caused by a sudden and accidental loss. Infestations of bugs, rodents, insects, etc. are not considered sudden nor accidental and are part of “maintaining” the premises. Take matters into your own hands and have your place fumigated by a professional exterminator or a diy fogger. Make sure you caulk any holes in the walls, floors etc. I lived off campus during my college years in the south and found myself in a similar situation. I purchased some window screen fabric and covered over all the heat registers, installed a sweep at the bottom of my door and bought a box or two of Raid Foggers in the turqoise blue box and enjoyed many a bug free, late night study session. Good luck!
